As someone who strongly believes in economic opportunity for all, I am dedicated to ensuring that every individual in District 18 has the chance to thrive. Born and raised in rural farm country South Dakota, I learned at a young age about customer service and hard work in a small country general store. As the 11th child of a family of 12, I understand the values of humility, resilience, and community. My early education in a one-room country schoolhouse instilled in me a deep appreciation for the importance of education and community connection, which I carried with me as I finished my schooling at Emery Elementary and High School.

My call to public service is tied to keeping South Dakota a wonderful place for my family and my neighbors. My wife, Gale, and I have three adult children and one granddaughter.

I am proud to have served as the former President of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Yankton, where I learned the importance of leadership, compassion, and service to others. Additionally, I currently serve as the Southeastern Area USA Softball Umpire in Chief, a role where I have been honored to contribute to the sportsmanship and camaraderie of our community. In 2020, I was humbled to receive the recognition of being named the SD State Umpire of the Year.

With my background as a former General Manager at Upper Midwest Grain Elevators, I bring firsthand experience in agricultural industry management to the table. This experience has equipped me with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing our agricultural community.

In 2022, I was elected to serve on the Yankton County Commission, where I gained valuable governing experience and worked diligently to address the needs and concerns of our community.

As a conservative, I am steadfast in my commitment to maintaining reasonable taxes in District 18, while also advocating for transparency in government processes. Furthermore, I hold firm to family values, support the Second Amendment, and advocate for pro-life policies that reflect our community’s core principles. Together, let’s keep District 18 strong and uphold the values that make our community great.
